Royal Gaitor, Jaipur, India
Although we do not always like big scale tourism, touristic places are often touristic for a reason: they usually have a lot of beauty to offer. This is also the case for Jaipur, nicknamed the "the Pink City”. Buildings here are beautifully colored, although we thought that the color was closer to orange than to pink. Is it the sun that makes it less pink after a while? Or was it always like that?
The Pink City is located in Rajasthan province. Rajasthan is India’s tourist heaven, as it boasts plenty sightseeing possibilities: vast amounts of forts, palaces and havelis are found here. But, on a trip like ours, money is limited and sticking to the budget often means not paying the hefty entrance fees to these places (let alone the additional fees for taking photos...) In Jaipur we initially planned to go and see the City Palace, but it turned out to be way out of our price range. We were not really bothered by it, as we soon learned about the Royal Gaitor! Not only do you pay only 30 rupees to get in, it was also pleasantly quiet (and very beautiful). One thing we know for sure: there is a lot to see in India! We suspect there are also a lot of places that are less well known, more off the beaten track, so, if you know one of these places, kindly let us know. We will drive our car there, no problem!
