Explore nick_manteris's Instagram Snapchat of Michael's Bone Marrow Transplant Last Night
The transplant itself was the easy part, but still a huge relief that the donor marrow arrived from Europe and everything went smoothly. Now we have to wait for his body to accept the new Marrow and then for it to start to grow and produce new, healthy blood cells. But the next few weeks are expected to be rough while his body tries to reject the foreign donor cells and he also has no immune system until it takes and recovers. Another step in the right direction.

Explore nick_manteris's Instagram Just a quick update: Yesterday was Michael's last day of this round of chemotherapy (His 3rd) prior to bone marrow transplant tomorrow. This was the strongest round he's got so far in order to wipe out his marrow completely in order for his body to accept the transplant. Thankfully, there hasn't been any complications or infections so far, he's just been nauseous and pretty wiped out. Overall though, he's doing good. It hasn't been able to break his spirit or sense of humor at all.

Explore jaldrich504's Instagram Michael is a true fighter, doing what he can to kick Cancers butt!
Michael being in remission is the best news we could have, but his fight is not over. Going into his Bone Marrow Transplant he knows that he needs to be strong and as healthy as he can be. I love days like this when he has strength and energy. I love seeing his cockiness and confidence and seeing him laugh and smile.
Today is day -7 of chemotherapy he's been getting chemo every 6 hours since yesterday at 4am. He will continue to get chemo until his transplant day January 12th (his new birthday they say). The chemo he is getting is stronger than any he has been given before. It's suppose to completely wipe out all of his cells and the transplant replaces them with the donors new healthy cells. This process takes weeks before the new cells start grafting. He will be closely monitored during and after this because his body is going to fight the unknown cells taking over. The Dr's have to tell us every possible side affect which is unbearable to hear. They say he will be in pain, Michael told us "it's ok because pain is temporary." He has been so incredibly brave and such an inspiration to me. There are times that he's upset and doesn't really know why, he said he's ok with the transplant and he's ok with getting sick but doesn't like not being in control of his emotions. Doesn't know why he gets short tempered or sad. We tell him it's all the medicine that he has been given and it's ok to be sad or mad and not know exactly what it is that caused it at that moment. Michael has always been the most caring and compassionate person I have ever met. He has a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. I know most of you know that about him already. This journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions for my entire family. I've shared a lot of his best days but there has been some difficult ones that I haven't shared. These next weeks are going to be difficult and I'm preparing myself for that. Although I know Michael will NOT give up and we have promised him that we NEVER will either. Please continue to pray for Michael that he recovers quickly and is home living his beautiful life he deserves. 1421357357733401223_48805821

Explore jaldrich504's Instagram ❤Today we head back to LA to finish Michael's fight! 🙏🏼He will be admitted tomorrow for his bone marrow transplant. Tonight was very difficult for Michael to say goodbye to Bella, he didn't want to leave her or leave at all. We are so grateful to his marrow donor to be doing such a selfless act to save his life. We have been preparing ourselves for this and have to believe and trust that his body accepts this new bone marrow. Michael will be in isolation for several weeks and will not be able to see his sister for at least a month or longer. Having him home for Christmas and the New Year meant so much, it really was the best medicine for all of us. This year has to be better than last! Michael is going to make it out stronger than ever and kick Cancer's butt for good! I have learned so much about myself and the true importance of family. Tomorrow is never guaranteed, as long as I can look back on yesterday and say I don't have any regrets that is a life well lived. In 2017 I will do my best to enjoy the smallest things in life, laugh more, listen more and enjoy every second with my babies. Time goes by way too fast, I don't want to waste a minute of it. Explore jaldrich504's Instagram Michael had a bone marrow biopsy yesterday and we did talk with his Dr's to hear the preliminary results of the biopsy. They told us that his Leukemia blasts looked like they could be 10% or less but couldn't confirm until today the exact amount. We weren't exactly pleased with that information because we knew this round of chemo was 10X stronger than his first round and was really hoping he would be in remission this time, which would have to be 5% or less. (Michael started chemo with 46% blasts and after the first round of chemo only came down to 37% blast in his marrow.) We knew he would have to go for a bone marrow transplant whether this round worked or not but also it is less likely of him relapsing after the transplant if he were in remission. Today his Dr's came to talk about the results, they explained to us that for Michael to be in remission he would have to have 5% blasts or less and that what their tests detected were less than 0.01% which is the best possible outcome right now! They cannot detect any Leukemia cells. We could not be more happy right now!❤️❤️ Michael still has a long road ahead. His counts are very low right now, they will have to come up for him to be able to come home for Christmas. If he does get to go home we will have to admit him on the 26th to get him prepped for his transplant. He does have a donor and they are ready to get started quickly. His Dr's have told us countless times how miraculous it is that Michael is doing as well as he is and looks as good as he does. They said it has everything to do with the love and support he has been given. He is incredible and so brave! He still needs prayers and support for the next step of this journey, please continue to show him your love and Pray for a full recovery for our boy! Last night when we met with the doctors to get Michael's preliminary biopsy results, the team of doctors again told us it's been miraculous the way he has handled everything so far. He should of got really sick and been passing out before we were diagnosed. He definitely shouldn't of been able to play soccer a few days before. The chemo should make him sicker then he has been. Fevers are normal. It's amazing how good his spirits still are. Then they said they won't be sure until today about the results of the biopsy, but they knew Michael responded better to the 2nd round, but he still might have up to 10% leukemia blasts left in his marrow. (He started with 46% blasts and the 1st round only got it down to 37%) Which to me was just so-so news. It was better then bad news, but not really "good" news. Anything over 5% and you're at a high risk of relapse.

Today when 3 doctors showed up to Michael's room, I was bracing for bad news. They explained that the tests could see if he had as little as 0.01% leukemia left, but it didn't see anything!
His leukemia is in complete remission!❤️🙏🏼 He's far from done, but this was the best news we could of received after this round! He still needs a bone marrow transplant, which is a long, tough process on its own but today was a big step in the right direction.
Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of love, prayers and support!! I know I'm not responding to a lot it, but it's all truly appreciated.

#TeamMichaelBear #FightOn @mmanteris1 @jaldrich504 @childrensla
