No editing, no filter. A bunch of people play basketball in a court next to the Paro river. All of Bhutan has a population so small that it probably equals the number of people living in my colony - 7 lakhs ( or 700,000). And every. One. Of them. Is. Nice. Maybe it's Buddhism, maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's their Gross National Happiness index that replaces the world-wide idea of measuring the national economy. But they are so chill, any one of them can start a Vipasanna course in LA and be successful at it. Every encounter with the receptionist, cab driver, owner, restraunteur, bus driver, cleaner, housewife .. all the people who run the invisible economy, are so warm that you feel eerily at home. The feeling that allows you to get comfortable but still prods every now and then that you're miles away from home. Leave that scare at home (that I carry everywhere as a Delhi girl) and you will be able to fully embrace their hospitality.
We found friends wherever we went. They were the people who serviced us as tourists, the bystanders who waved at us when we hiked, the lady who told us her life story as we gorged on her momos in rainfall, the fellow laughers as we watched Takishi's castle in Aunty's bar and the locals who played a game of basketball with us. They were people who took a moment out of their lives to share it with us.
