Explore society_anne's Instagram ** Late night meeting at Hampton Court Palace Part 2 **
.
.
For part 1 see my previous post.
.
.
The conversation between Queen Mary and Elizabeth (as given by John Foxe).
.
.
Elizabeth, on entering Mary's chamber at Hampton Court Palace kneels in front of her half-sister.
.
.
Mary, "You will not confess your offence, but stand stoutly in your truth, I pray God it may so fall out".
.
.
Elizabeth (sensing she had gained the higher ground) persisted, ""If it doth not, I request neither favour nor pardon at your majesty's hands".
.
.
"You stiffly persevere in your truth" Mary repeated, realising her half-sister would not give way, "Belike you will not confess but that you have been wrongfully punished".
.
.
Not giving a straight answer, Elizabeth replied, "I must not say so, if it please your majesty, to you".
.
.
Mary pointed out that Elizabeth might well give a different account to others.
.
.
But Elizabeth denied this, saying, "No, if it please your majesty, I have borne the burden and must bear it. I humbly beseech your majesty to have a good opinion of me, and to think me to be your true subject, not only from the beginning hitherto, but for ever, as long as life lasteth".
.
.
In the end, Mary had to grudgingly admit defeat, realising that nothing could be proved in regards to Elizabeth's involvement in the Wyatt rebellion, and abruptly sent Elizabeth back to her apartments. .
.
Foxe also states that Clarencius was not the only witness to this exchange.
.
.
Concealed behind an arras on the wall, Mary's husband Philip of Spain listened in to the exchange between the two sisters. .
.
If this is true, then it would have been the first glimpse of this sister-in-law he had heard so much about (and who, in later life would cause him so much trouble). .
.
Philip's reactions are unknown. Recently he had undergone a transformation in regards to Elizabeth. Now he began showing her more favour, becoming a friend to her. 1521991334558609195_1475288421

.
.
One night during the month of May in the year 1554 at Hampton Court Palace at around 10 o'clock at night, the Lady Elizabeth (daughter of Anne Boleyn) receives a surprise message. She is told that she has been summoned to the by her half-sister Queen Mary to her presence.
.
.
Elizabeth was surprised this summons - first of all due to the lateness of the hour and due to the peremptory of the message - and also because despite a visit from a delegation of Mary's councillors - she had been pretty much ignored ever since she had arrived at Hampton Court between the 24th and 29th April, what with all the hype surrounding Mary's supposed pregnancy.
.
.
Elizabeth feared that an assassin was waiting for her in the dark gardens. Fortunately, she was soon realised that this was not the case as she was led across the gardens by torchlight to the bottom of the staircase where she was met by one of Mary's closest friends and favourite ladies-in-waiting, Susan Clarencius.
.
.
Clarencius led Elizabeth up the stairs and into the presence of Queen Mary.
.
.
It was the first time the two sisters had seen each other in at least a year and a half. During which time Elizabeth had been imprisoned in the Tower, suspected of involvement in the rebellion of Sir Thomas Wyatt against Mary's marriage to Philip of Spain. .
.
During this meeting Elizabeth would undoubtedly have scrutinised her sister for signs of a pregnancy. She would have known about the embarrassing announcement that Mary had been delivered of a son on April 29, only for this to later have been declared false (not before the news had spread across the country and to the courts of Europe). .
.
Soon however, she would realise with absolute horror, the speculation, miscalculations and the eventual announcement that there was actually no pregnancy at all. Elizabeth witnessed both the physical pain and the mental anguish that her sister suffered, and probably what shocked her most of all, was how this whole ordeal had affected the Queen's reputation.
.
.
Part 2, featuring the exchange of this meeting - as told by John Foxe - to follow imminently. 1521969700355248837_1475288421

Explore mxlfoysmxnor's Instagram “Though hotly denied by subsequent generations, there is ample evidence to suggest that the first Lucius Malfoy was an unsuccessful aspirant to the hand of Elizabeth I, and some wizarding historians allege that the Queen’s subsequent opposition to marriage was due to a jinx placed upon her by the thwarted Malfoy.“ — Lucius Malfoy I in Malfoy family

Lucius Malfoy I was a pure-blood wizard in the 16th century. The Malfoy family was correctly rumoured to come in contact with Muggles and make a good living off of Muggle ways.

At some point during his life, he aspired for the hand of Queen Elizabeth I of England. He was unsuccessful in his attempt to woo her. Although never proven, many wizarding historians believe this upset Lucius enough to make him jinx the Queen, resulting in her well-known reluctant behaviour towards marriage. This was denied by subsequent generations of the Malfoy family, but there has never been solid evidence for either side.

His name would eventually be reused for his descendant about four centuries later. {#LUCIUSMALFOYI #MALFOYMANOR #DRACOMALFOY #SCORPIUSMALFOY #LUCIUSMALFOY #MALFOYFAMILY #WIZARDSOCIETY #WIZARDFAMILY #WIZARDFAMILIES #WIZARDINGSOCIETY #HARRYPOTTER #HP #HARRYPOTTEREDIT #HARRYPOTTERUNIVERSE #MALFOYFAMILYEDIT #MALFOYSERIES #HPEDIT #MALFOY #ELIZABETHI #WIZARDINGHISTORY #WIZARDHISTORY } 1521217591988002321_5397843121

.
.
Around Hampton Court Palace Anne's memory still very much lives on. From the Great Hall which was built in her time. In the Great Hall itself, you can see her Falcon badge on display in a glass cabinet, and the H&A entwined initials. .
.
There is also a stained glass window representing Anne Boleyn in the Great Hall (and each of the other wives), which includes her white falcon and fleur-de-lis. .
.
There is also "The Anne Boleyn Gatehouse" - which is Victorian but still a great reminder of one of England's most famous Queens. The Gatehouse also features Anne's Falcon badge and the H&A entwined initials.
.
.
The pond gardens, between the Privy Garden and the Great Vine, were originally used for holding freshwater fish for the royal court. .
.
Cardinal Wolsey would send Anne fish from the ponds as she would personally request them - and he was trying to gain her favour!
.
.
Also in the Young Henry exhibition at the Palace, you can see portraits of Margaret of Austria, who Anne spent a year with in 1513-14 at the Palace of Mechelen. And also the famous painting of 'The Field of Cloth of Gold' painting. Anne would have been present at this magnificent event, in the service of Queen Claude of France.
