It's a brand new week and we're kicking it off with a new topic: SKIN HEALTH . Whether it be acne, psoriasis, eczema or dermatitis, if there's disharmony happening within, this can show up on our skin. There are many reasons that could be affecting your skin but here are some of the main ones:
✖️POOR DIGESTION. The skin is the largest organ in the body, and it's also an excretory organ, so if toxins and impurities aren't being filtered and excreted properly within the gut and digestive system, they can come through in the skin.
✖️GUT FLORA DYSBIOSIS. Having an overgrowth of "bad" bacteria and not enough of the "good" in your colon can cause so many different health issues, including inflammation internally and externally for the body. The external inflammation can present itself as skin conditions.
✖️STRESS. We talked last week about how detrimental to your health prolonged stress can be, and your skin is not excluded from the list of things that is affected by it. Stress can be a major trigger for everything from breakouts on your face to eczema and psoriasis flare ups.
✖️HORMONAL IMBALANCE. This is especially important in adult onset acne. If you have an irregular menstrual cycle, suffer from PCOS or endometriosis, or have come off from a hormone based contraceptive like the OCP or Mirena, you'll likely be experiencing skin issues due to an imbalance in your hormones, either from your body producing too much or too little of certain sex hormones. Regulating these hormones, getting rid of any residual synthetic hormones from your system (if you've been on contraception) and bringing balance back to your cycle can greatly improve your skin health.
✖️HARMFUL/HARSH INGREDIENTS IN YUOR SKINCARE PRODUCTS. Your skin is exposed to so much products each day - cleansers, soaps, creams, lotions and make up. If you're not using products with just natural ingredients, the chemicals and additives in the products you are using could be causing inflammation and irritation to your skin.
This week we'll be sharing some of our favourite tips, supplements and products for skin so make sure you tune in!
