 For a time the old sweet potato was placed on a “superfood” pedestal, leading folks to believe that they were far superior choice to the old white potato, now if we are talking specifically about the Vitamin A content well yes indeed they do win, as white potatoes contain 0, but on the rest they really aren’t so different.

Both contain antioxidants & the plant chemicals (phytochemicals) they contain help to regulate the immune system, fight viruses like a superhero & control inflammation.
-
They both have fiber & contain resistant starch ( more in white than sweet) which is converted into short chain fatty acids which may have a whole host of benefits ( slap that into google & you’ll see.)

 I know there will be some who will be quoting the glycemic load when it comes to your choice, it’s honestly to big of a topic for this post, so just briefly they both sit in the middle of the scale.

‍♀️Glycemic Index & Load depict only a small piece of the picture so simply using those to make a judgement on a food isn’t reliable. How the food is cooked, what it’s eaten with & the different variations all have an impact. You also need to consider where foods fit in, in the  context of your overall diet.

‍♀️The feel good factor that a lot of peeps get after they’ve eaten a meal with potatoes, is due to them both containing natural substances which are connected to our “feel good”neurotransmitters. FYI if you eat them & they don’t make you feel good or perhaps even feel not so good, well perhaps potatoes aren’t the food for you ( that makes me sad)

Overall, either variety mainly eaten as a whole & unprocessed version of itself is a great inclusion in diet, pick your fav or go wild & eat both

Explore ashlola's Instagram Very few foods naturally contain vitmain D, however cod liver oil, salmon, mackerel and sardines are good sources once they are not farmed. The best source of natural vitamin D is from the sun. However, due to the use of suncreams, spending more time indoors, living in Ireland we may not be getting sufficient levels for optimum health. Therefore I supplement from September to May in order to keep my vitamin D levels sufficient for optimum health. However, make sure its vitamin D3, if you by emulsified vitamin D3 @biocareltd you will absorb it really well. Or if you buy this one from @nutriadvancedltd you get vitamin k in it too. Why vitamin k? Well vitamin D is like the hero for bone health because it boosts calcium absorption and is important for normal development of the skeleton, but vitamin K is its assistant making sure calcium binds to your bones. Please dont supplement with calcium alone for bone health and the form of calcium is important, alot of prescribed calcium is chalk ask your health shop for a bioavailable form.
What about vitamin D toxicity? Please ask your GP to assess your vitamin D3 levels through a blood test. Having optimum vitamin D3 levels is important for many common and serious diseases including heart disease, common cancers and osteoporosis. Note its vitamin D3 we want to look at not the inactive form vitaminD2. Tried using a variety of rice flours, came together quite nicely but a wee bit tricky to work with and baked quite hard too. The quiche mixture is pretty cool tho. Amazing how chickpea flour works!
This one is a mushroom, tomato and #vegancheese quiche. I used @angel.foodnz cheddar cheese that really gave the quiche a great cheesy flavour! Served with some very lightly steamed wild greens seasoned with lemon juice and cracked pepper!

Fast forward to them now being one of my favorite fall veggies. For me, it has to do with the caramelization process that occurs when they are roasted. There are so many different ways you can prepare them (read: always roast or sauté) with some healthy cooking fats and various ingredients. Like bacon? Add bacon! Have pomegranates? Use those. Things like apples, lemon zest, goat cheese, garlic, dates, fresh figs, dried cranberries, walnuts, sliced almonds, hazelnuts, and onions are all easy additions to make any Brussels sprout dish a mouth watering affair. You can also shred them in a food processor or on a box grater With the same ingredients and change the texture a bit. They are packed with fiber and vitamins and are a great side to this week's dinner. The German the name for Brussels sprouts is 'Rosenkohl' as they look like little rosebuds.
