Prairie VegFest 2017 August 5-13th (PrairieVegFest.com) gives attendees a lived experience of the organizational happenings at Forever MicroRanch: A Community Living Project. Our membership is a part of a uniquely rural vegan and farmed animal microsanctuary, and acts to do what we can in our daily lives for human and environmental justice. We do the simplest activities that lessen harm done to all animals and to the planet. We live consciously vegan, mindful of our consumer needs, extend our hand to our human folk, and do stuff like use less electricity, hot water, and continue to develop our awareness of zero waste. We continue to prep our soil for our garden food forest and to slowly plant and grow food. Animal rescue organizations are constantly trying to raise funds for animal care needs, and feeding everyone including carers is a significant expense. This is why we continue to develop our independent food source. Looking after resident animals is about constructing our life in a way that contributes to quality and permanent care till the end of an resident's life. Our human health careers, both present and past, enables us to confidently assess a plan of care while consulting with animal professionals. Taking care of every aspect of a nonhuman animal requires skill and continuous life long education and knowledge. We are a two person show here with one going off to work in a remote region to "work" and the other doing care and business on the property. There are limited regularly present volunteers due to the rural nature of the area, and due to the fact that we are smack dab in ranching/farming country. As a developing membership community co-operative members come for farmstay experiences when they can. With multiple visits one can begin to learn the aspects of resident nonhuman care requirements, but it takes time to learn to be and work with them. And, environmental, nonhuman animal, and human justice learning is a process. We often say, we are not just the sweet ladies who take care of animals and people. We are that, too, but...Pairie VegFest 2017 gives attendees a chance to express, listen, teach, learn and just be.
